Job Title:  Broadcast Engineer (Part-Time) - Atlanta Radio

 

Position Overview

The Broadcast Engineer duties include, but are not limited to, installation, maintenance and repair of equipment related to all Radio Frequency (RF) operations, broadcast and digital distribution systems, studio equipment, tower site operations, computer systems and security systems. Timely completion of all projects and maintenance required. Must immediately respond to off-air emergencies with the ability to troubleshoot quickly. Assist with the long-range plan for equipment and system improvement.  The Broadcast Engineer must work closely with other departments in the maintenance and operation of their equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exudes superior customer service and fosters teamwork.
  • Must be able to deal confidentially with sensitive information.
  • Assist and coordinate all duties with Engineering management.
  • Maintain, calibrate, repair, track repair, and improve where possible all broadcast equipment.
  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot IT and networking equipment including infrastructure, interconnectivity, end-user workstations and software.
  • Install, maintain, and support transmitters and transmission systems, transceivers, satellite receivers, generators, UPS, remote control and broadcast automation equipment for optimum performance.
  • Keep technical areas and equipment clean and free of dust, dirt and debris.
  • Mange remote broadcast scheduling, site coordination, timely broadcast equipment setup, operation and tear down.  Safely store and maintain remote broadcast equipment.
  • Learn to operate all station equipment, including all related test equipment.
  • Varied and extended hours may include some weekends, holidays, on-call and required travel when emergencies or failure of critical equipment occurs to the operation of the station.
  • Assist with business continuity planning, dissemination and implementation.
  • Support documentation of equipment installation, wiring, maintenance, repair and replacement.
  • Maintain an up-to-date spare parts inventory.
  • Respond to equipment outages, malfunctions and related technical problems at the studio, transmitter, and translator locations in a timely manner.
  • Ensure operation and maintenance of company vehicles for the safety of users and the public according to station and company guidelines.
  • Manage and maintain clear communication of any issues that affect safety, legal compliance or that could impact daily operations.
  • Must respond and be able to travel at a moment’s notice to studio or transmitter sites immediately upon notification of serious equipment failures or problems.
  • Additional duties assigned as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Broadcast Engineer should possess an aptitude for electronics and an understanding of electronic circuits.  
  • A Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Certification is desired.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to
  • interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • This is a service-oriented position requiring excellent written and oral communications, personable and timely interaction with co-workers.
  • Requires strong project management and organizational skills with effective follow-up and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills.
  • Heavy computer usage, including repetitive hand use and movement, is required.
  • Some lifting is required.  
  • Some climbing and crawling may be required.  
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work in small places, and lift 50 pounds.
  • Work performed primarily in Engineering Shop, in studios and transmitter facilities, both inside and outside, and in an office environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An Associates degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent is preferred.
