Job Title:  News Director - WOKV Radio


Position Overview

Reporting to the Brand Manager, the News Director serves as lead people, content, and assignment manager. They guide and influence the news team through coaching and direction. The News Director is a partner to the Brand Manager in ensuring that the vision of the WOKV News Team is carried out in every newscast on the radio, and through all digital and social channels. They produce compelling news content that contributes to our success daily. They anchor newscasts between 5 am and 12 pm weekdays. They are an active contributor of digital content that is shared by other CMG Jacksonville radio stations and Action News Jax.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages news content assignments 
  • Anchors newscasts 
  • Produces, writes and reports stories for radio and digital platforms 
  • Coaching of news talent 
  • Leads digital and social media policy 
  • Conducts interviews  
  • Develops policies, procedures for continuous improvement 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcast journalism, or communications  
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills and demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities 
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices with demonstrated leadership and team building abilities  
  • Ability to proactively identify and diagnose business needs and deliver relevant solutions 
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver results against a work plan in a fast-paced environment, giving attention to detail even under high pressure situations 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral 
  • Must be a team player with a positive “Whatever it Takes” attitude 
  • Proactive, self-motivated player with the ability to work with minimal supervision 
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to identify organizational development needs and deliver relevant coaching or training as needed 
  • Proven storytelling skills with the ability to clearly articulate business issues and solutions to senior leaders 
  • Analytical with the ability to evaluate complex data and make recommendations 
  • Forward thinking and has a continuous process improvement mindset; highly effective decision-making and judgment 
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills and demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities 
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices with demonstrated leadership and team building abilities
