Position Overview
Cox Media Group “CMG” has an exciting leadership opportunity available for a progressive, experienced, best-in-class broadcast leader to oversee our Jacksonville TV market, which includes WFOX (CMG-owned FOX affiliate), WJAX (CBS affiliate owned by Hoffman Broadcasting, operated by CMG), Telemundo and MeTV stations.
The leader accepting this role is entrusted with building upon a rich legacy of award-winning journalism, transformative community service, financial performance, and operational excellence in all facets of the business.
The VP/GM is responsible for leading a team of high performers who deliver market-leading audience, ratings and revenue across all platforms (linear, digital, streaming) and maximize broadcast performance (revenue, market share, margins), while upholding Jacksonville TV’s commitment to the local North Florida and Southeast Georgia community and the core values of the company. The leader will also work in close partnership with CMG’s strong Jacksonville radio group located in the same building.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversees all station departments including news, sales, marketing, engineering, programming, production, creative services, and community affairs.
- Drives results by developing and executing on the station’s short and long-term strategic and operating plans; achieves revenue, expense, and BCF/EBITDA goals consistent with the organization’s financial and operating guidelines.
- Develops and leads a workplace culture that drives high performance, engagement, teamwork, retention, integrity, and accountability.
- Embodies the company’s core values and acts as a key leader within the business, the Jacksonville community, and the industry at large.
- Recruits, develops, and retains a strong leadership team; provides guidance and coaching to maximize their performance and accelerate their professional growth.
- Brings an innovative approach to established and proven television, digital, and streaming models resulting in improved efficiencies and business unit growth.
- Fosters a digital culture to increase broadcast ratings and grow digital audience including mobile, mobile apps, and desktop.
- Develops and maintains relationships with advertisers, clients, viewers, and community leaders.
- Identifies strategic opportunities to involve the station in community events and public affairs and represents CMG Jacksonville on local, affiliate, broadcast, and industry-related boards and organizations.
- Ensures the station operates in full compliance with all Equal Employment Opportunity and Federal Communications Commission requirements and other applicable laws.
Professional Experience/Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, marketing, communications, media/broadcast, or other related field preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in television station management with demonstrated success in various leadership roles required.
- Prior experience as a television station leader with revenue and/or newsroom accountability strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of local news, programming, sales (specifically TV advertising including political and digital), marketing, production, technology, and research.
- Results oriented, with a bias for action and a strong sense of ownership/accountability.
- Experience working in a high-change environment, directing large, multi-disciplined and matrixed teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and leadership to maximize performance.
- Excellent community relations, interpersonal and leadership skills with executive presence and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to attract/hire, develop and retain high caliber talent to ensure bench strength in key areas of business.
