WFTV is seeking a dynamic, experienced Managing Editor to help lead our award-winning newsroom. The ideal candidate is a proven newsroom leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, embraces innovation, and inspires teams to produce compelling, impactful content on all platforms. This position will work closely with the News Director to oversee daily newsgathering, content strategy, and execution, ensuring our journalism meets the highest standards of accuracy, urgency, and relevance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day newsroom operations, including editorial decisions, story selection, and content execution across all platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with producers, reporters, photographers, and digital teams to ensure editorial excellence and consistency.
  • Manage breaking news coverage and coordinate resources effectively during major events.
  • Coach and develop newsroom staff with an emphasis on storytelling, writing, production quality, and ethical journalism.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to grow audience engagement on broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and journalistic standards, station policies, and FCC regulations.
  • Support a positive, collaborative newsroom culture that values diversity, creativity, and accountability.
  • Fill in for the News Director as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in television news, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
  • Proven success leading teams in a competitive, fast-paced news environment.
  • Strong editorial judgment, writing, and communication skills.
  • Experience with digital content strategy and multi-platform news delivery.
  • Ability to lead through influence, motivate staff, and manage multiple priorities under deadline pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of newsroom systems such as ENPS, Bitcentral, and non-linear editing platforms is preferred.
